The jetties
The origins of the Saguntine industry started in 1900 with the foundation, by the Basque businessmen Ramón de la Sota and Eduardo Aznar, of the Sierra Menera Mining Company (CMSM), dedicated to the exploitation of iron ore in Ojos Negros (Teruel) and Setiles (Guadalajara) and its export by sea through its shipping company. The chosen destination to ship all the mineral and build an entire industry around it was Sagunto.

The Movement
Between 1900 and 1907 the railway was built and the use of the port began 6 km from Sagunto. The railway line would link the mines and the port, separated by 205 km, giving rise to the population nucleus of Puerto de Sagunto.

Apprentices school
The history of the Apprentice School has been intimately tied in the city and its steel-mining factory. It was part of the educational project of the factory, initially tried to enroll the first children of the workers since 1912, and later I assumed the function of guaranteeing trained workers. It is already 1966, with 192 students, when the inauguration takes place in its current location, and at this time, around 1989, is when the school passes into the hands of the Ministry of Education with the name of IES Eduardo Merello.
